Sunday, June 22, 2008 - Psalm 85:6

Has the need for revival ever been greater? Perhaps so, but for us, it seems almost impossible. Revival is certainly needed. Beautiful buildings, ever-increasing bank accounts, good crowds, and round-the-clock programs sometimes obscure the genuine need for revival. Yet, spiritual living is at a very low tide. Few practice holiness. Few really ever pray. Homes are very worldly. Television and all of its vices have far greater influence in our homes than does the truths of God's Word. Divorce is more and more commonplace inside the church family. Children grow up to abandon the church and its teachings as quickly as possible. Is there an answer? There certainly is!

Psalm 85:6: Wilt thou not revive us again, that thy people may rejoice in thee? As Evangelist George Stephens wrote in 1961, here is the revival prayer: "Wilt thou?" It is addressed to God as the source of revival. He alone can breathe life into His church through His Spirit working in the lives of His children. This verse specifies the people to be revived: "us." We must confront our sin and our complacency, worldliness, and compromises. We must see our need! This verse also reminds us of the history of revival in one little word: "again." Surely God can do for us what He has done for so many others down through history! Here is also the product of revival: "joy," as well as the end of revival: "God Himself."

In your own spiritual life do you ever feel a need for revival? Why not begin praying this verse and meditating on these truths? God desires to revive us again. He wants life in our churches and in our families more than we want that life. He wants to use us and bless us and help us to see our loved ones converted. Set aside one day each week as your "revival prayer" day. Pray throughout the day concerning revival in your own heart and life, in your family, and in your church and community. Pray with fasting once a month. Find a quiet place and kneel and plead with God for His powerful working.

May the God of revival answer your prayers!

Sincerely,

The David Young Revival Team
