Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - For Me to Live is Christ!
Philippians 1:20-21 "According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that will all boldness, as always, so now also, Christ shall be magnified in my body , whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
" . . . That in nothing I shall be ashamed . . ." strikes me! How often am I ashamed because of a word or action that is not pleasing to Christ? Too often. And isn't it ironic that Paul speaks of having boldness in Christ being magnified? For me, it seems that my boldness is only exercised when Christ is not being glorified.
The key is in verse 21: "For to me to live is Christ . . .." I would like that verse so imprinted on my heart that it would spring to mind in every circumstance. In the middle of a busy, wearying, day, my response to my husband and children is formed by "for to me to live is Christ." If I watch teleivision it is controlled by "for to me to live is Christ. My thoughtfulness toward a lost world is "for to me to live is Christ. Am I really too busy to speak a kind word, give a gospel tract, or invite someone to Christ? Not if I am living for Christ . . . or living as Christ lives through me.
It is also my "earnest expectation" and "my hope" that "in nothing I shall be ashamed," but that I will "with all boldness magnify Christ."
